The 250 spreaders are self booted with only the need to add rigging tape to cover the joint between the spreader tip and spreader arm. However, the siezing wire could possibly be a problem if the ends are not well turned inward and rig wrapped well.
There are some leather boots that can be used but my rigger argued that they can be more of a liability than a benefit if any sharp folds are left or the holding ties offer any protrusions.
I've never had boots on mine but have always kept the rig wrap in good condition but that is made easier because I always trailer sail. Rig wrap should however last a full season. I do endeavor to keep the sail off the spreaders.
Thanx Arlyn, I always had everything protected from chafe and kept the sails away from the spreader bars. But, the three C-25's that were docked around me this past season looked so nice with those boots. Thanks for the clarification.
