Hi All, I lookded at a 25 today and it looks like it fell over when out of the water. I have not been able to confirm with the owner. I can straighten out the pulpits and lifeline stancheons but the mast looks like it is about three to four inches over at the top. Can this amount be fixed or do I need a new mast......if so, how much is one? The previous owner did not take good care of the boat, but it is not in bad shape overall. Cheers.

(This reply assumes the mast is up)

The tension on the upper side stays may be out of balance and the mast may not be bent at all (at least beyond it's elastic limits). Wiggle the stays and see if one is really tight an the other loose.

However, if the tension on the stays is so far out of balance, there may be a bigger problem lurking with hull damage (structural failure or distortion). If you're really interested in this boat, I'd find expert help to look her over. There may be hidden damage.

All that said, I think you can pick up a new mast extrusion for about $600 and install your own fittings. There were some recent threads on just this topic that should show up using the forum search function.

There is an article in the winter issue of Boat Works on replacing your mast...by yourself. They say it's not too bad of a DIY project (Skill Level: easy).

1.) Get a professional pre-purchase survey.

2.) Replacing a mast with an exact match isn't too hard if you go slow and think well ahead of your saw and drill. (However, rigging a boat from scratch isn't an ideal beginner project.)

3.) These are popular boats. It might not be too hard to locate a good used mast.

Hi All, I spent three hours on the boat today (24 degrees) and found that the mast was just rigged with a pull to port. We fixed it then and there. Other than that, the guy I am buying it from did not take care of it for two years so I have some scrubbing to do. Looks like a great winter project and I sign the papers tomorrow. Cheers.
