My offer on a 2001 250 here in Alamitos Bay Marina, Long Beach was accepted! Been on the market, brokered by Flying Cloud Yachts, for almost two years; mine was the 1st offer. Probably because the owner had "no name" listed for $28,500.00, rarely took her out. My offer was 18, take it or leave it, and he took it. It's the basic '01 boat, only option a marine head. Having her surveyed next week. Stay tuned for a flood of questions for you "old salt" 250 owners ;-)

Yar, Don, that be her!
That loose furled foresail is a Flexible Furler 110. The same brand furler on my Neptune 24 (which is for sale)is a 130. Any reason I shouldn't exchange the two to give me more "punch", er pull?

Does the new boat have genoa track cars that will allow you to use a 130?

Same track length as yours; same with all late model 250's. I'll ask my rigger.

Steve, where did you buy your Honda and what did it cost? I can get a new Nissan from Min-Mar up here. The 8 electric goes for $1,889.00 and the 9.8 goes for $2,085.00. How do those numbers compare with Honda? The Nissans have to be flushed through the bottom, but I would flush it with a bucket like I do my 6 horse Nissan on my soon-to-be ex Neptune.

The Honda will be more money. It also has a better (bigger) prop that will provide superior thrust in less than ideal conditions. Nissan is lighter and smaller. It is a jem of a motor. If you want the best motor available in my opinion talk to Mercury. They have a 9.9 bigfoot model which is a Nissan powerhead, and a larger lower unit that has a larger, slower turing prop. The Mercury also has the shifter integrated into the twistgrip for one-hand operation. If you have a Mercury dealer willing to work with you, It should only be a few hundred more than the Nissan.

The flushing port on the Nissan/Mercury is a gimmick. All you need are the standard rabbit ears.

Whatever you do, go for the extra long shaft. You may not think you need it, BUT...When the wind pipes up to 40 knots and the rig is heeling the boat, you will still have the prop in the water.

The integrated shifter/throttle is worth its weight in gold!

The Honda costs more, but worth it to me because after a day on the water I like the easy top flush and it also comes with a 3 year full warranty, but like the gentleman above mentioned,an extra long shaft really helps with a following sea. Some times the bucket doesn't fit on these larger motors.I tried it.They use a bag and it's a nightmare too heavy. You might want to call Catalina Yachts in Woodland Hills, and ask the tech.Dept.what they recommend.
