So the newbie (me) is looking at Turk's great pictures of his boat in his shop, and I come to the stern and look at the outboard. And wonder.

My 8HP Yamaha will weigh about 110 lbs. How the heck do I get it up there to install it when the boat is on its trailer? A crane?

Hoping for one of those great smart answers to yet another dumb question...

You could use a crane like this one from Garhauer...

To make life easier for me, I gather up some cinder blocks and lumber, which is laying all around at my boatyard, to make a temporary scaffold to mount my outboard.

Two person job, that's all. One to support and push from below. the other with a rope around it, to haul it up and position on the transom. I keep mine off the transom when traveling. Always some friendly sailers around to help at the boat ramp. Believe me, at an inland lake, your boat will draw a crowd as you hoist the mast (by yourself!).

Make sure you make Arlyn's "Soft link" for your outboard. I just set mine up last week. Boy is that gonna help turn the boat better. Can't wait to try it. 6 months to go

I have an 8hp Honda (115lbs) that I put on & take off by myself! Trust me......I'm no Hercules!! I just back my 4wd Pick-up as close as I can to the back of the boat with the tailgate down, crank-up the Front of the Trailer, stand the motor up in the back of the P/U bed and Voila! I only have to lift it about 6" to put it on...... Which is about as far as I can lift it anyway!!

That's exactly what the previous owner of our boat did.
