I just bought a 1979 catalina 25 using this website helped make my decision to go with a catalina 25. The owner of the boat had a Catalina direct book onboard ...it is a great book that gives you information on problems you may encounter how to fix them and the part #s for the parts needed. When I brought my boat home I hooked a spreader on the mast to my pine tree and "snap". I looked in this book and it said that you should upgrade the mounts for the spreader with the stainless steel to avoid a catastrophic failure. Thanks for the good info and I hope this helps someone else.
You're right about that little CD book ... there is a lot of good info in there, and it is also a great source for replacement parts and upgrades.
You mentioned that the handbook came with your boat ... Catalina Direct periodically mails updated pages for the book ... maybe you can contact them to see if you can get the updates mailed to you now ... 'just a thought ... here's a link: Catalina Direct
Welcome to the group ... you're going to love your boat!
The book can be a very useful resource, especially when you have items that are specific to catalina like the spreader brackets. I did find that many non boat specific items can be purchased cheaper elsewhere, so use the book as a guide more than a catalog.
