I've been researching digital camcorders with hopes of buying one in a couple of months. Our sailing mentors have given us dvd's of our first sail and our trip to the San Juans together. Complete with a great soundtrack! When I can't remember the last time the sun shone through the gray skies I sure appreciate seeing those moving images of our boat moving! Has anyone here got any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Hi Pam, I just bought a digital camera after 35 years of film that you had to get processed. I went to Consumers Repost and looked at their assessment. First it listed all the features that are available, so I got an education as to what I wanted, then it evaluated all of them. Good luck.
I am looking at getting a new camcorder as well. I usually follow these guidelines for technology purchases. I tend to buy end of product life items that are on clearance. You need to get something that has the features you need and hopefully the ones you want as well. It will still serve the purpose at only 25-50% the cost of the current model. For example.
I just purchased a Casio ultra slim camera for the wife. The one I found is last years display. It came with a full warranty. It has almost all the features of the new model. New model is $350. I paid $129. If you can find the same sort of deal, you could get something very nice for about $200.
Regardless of your purchase, do check the reviews. There are plenty of lemons out there in technology land.
which has some good info including a forum . I did a search of the forum "sailing" and got some good posts that gave me additional considerations to apply to my search. I'm more interested in hearing what features are valuable/not for use on the boat. I know image stabilization is a biggie because on top of filming moving objects from a moving object I have shaky hands (the only reason I'm not a brain surgeon ) Tom, good point about buying as the new models come out. I'll check that out as well.
I moved about a year ago, and as I did I spent way to much time going through old photos. I wonder how many memories will be lost in this digital age? will we even be able to find a DVD in 20 years. As I think about it I have spent an amazing amount of time rebuilding, and then sailling Kamalla and not one printed photo.
