I just loaded a few more photos of my boat's exterior and interior. No photos on website yet for new outboard motor bracket, solar panel and controller. Takes time loading these photos ! I'll load them soon but...I noticed one or two of the photos I did load have the new 4 spring outboard bracket barely visible - Have to look close. I put a polymer board against the transom and then mounted the bracket to that. (I think some catalogs call it a Starboard.)
I installed the bracket yesterday and went out for a small sail to test it out today. Had a hard time getting the bracket to go into the slot for normal motoring - the slot that has the motor had it's lowest position. One side would go in but not quite on the other bracket arm. I think I will bring a cheater bar, etc one day this week and see if I can nudge it in. I think it will loosen up the more I use it. http://catalina25.homestead.com/olarryr.html Larry
Actually....I just noticed that the 3rd photo of my boat with the cover on it, does have the new solar panel I installed. But I have a lot more photos of the solar panel, controller and assembling it. I ordered the aluminum flat and bar matl, cut it up, bent it, drilled the holes and with the use of some plastic clamps from the local Boat US store, I built the mounts. Only problem was that it was not anodized Aluminum. I am on the Potomac River and so not quite the corrosion concern when dealing with salt water...but aluminum will disintegrate if exposed to weather conditions. So...after I had first assembled it about a month ago, I then removed it and coated the parts with an industrial grade rustoleum product - 2 primer coats and 2 enamel coats. Then reassembled today onto the boat and put the winter cover back on.
First, where did you get the canvas (?) cover tented over the boom? That's exactly what I need - instead of the cheesy little tarp that keeps the rain off the windows but not much else - but I haven't found. Rather, I've found many but none seem suitable.
Also, are your interior cushion covers stock for your year, or did you or a PO have them made. Once again, my nice "early lounge lizard plaid" cushions do the job - but....
The cover has a label in the corner near the stern. It is hard to make out even if you blow up the photo image. It indicates a local sailmaker - Potomac Sailmakers in Alexandria, Virginia. I am not sure if it is a custom cover. I think it was made to fit over the boom after the main sail is taken off. But I left the main on as I plan to sail on as many decent days as I can this winter. So...some of the cutouts probably do not fit up where they should but close enough. The person I bought the boat from had the cover made and it is practically new. It cost him $900.00. He had it made because he was always concerned when it would snow and it filled up the cockpit and then iced.
I am not sure about the cushions in the cabin. I believe they are original, though, it is hard to believe since they look like no one ever sat on them. The previous owners and before them as well took very good care of this boat. The cushions were brought home to store each winter. The boat has no mildew or any obvious signs of water ever entering the bilge. The keel bolt area is spotless and the bolts/nuts are shiny from first visible thread and up.
Thanks for the info. I'll look them up. I'm not so worried about icing due to the great weather we have in D.C. () but this cover looks like a great way to keep soon-to-be-refurbished teak out of the weather as much as possible.
I noticed your other post about going out this past weekend. Logs, rocks, and ice bergs, oh my! You've gotta love this river.
