Wow!

Christmas is almost here and guess what? Santa has already bought me some nice things for my 250. Well, I should say, in the process of shopping for gifts for my wife, I've run across some items that I though she would also appreciate. Let me begin:

New Weems & Plath large Yatcht oil lamp for the cabin. Boy will she be happy. No more using up all the battery power for lights and freeing up more time for satellite radio (last years Christmas gift)

Two brand new 68' sta set X halyards for the main and jib. She will be jumping for joy as the main halyard will no longer slip through the spinlock grip. Same for the Jib line.

Brand new (used Ebay) PT-1 tension gauge. I can't wait till she opens this one. This one will go in her stocking as she opens it first. Wooo she will be speachless!

Well, that isn't all the things I got me - er her. I got her some cloths and jewlery and gift certificated and blah, blah blah . .

Did I mention the new gallon of bottom paint?

Since these lines run inside the mast, what procedure will you use to replace the halyards? I want to "beef up" my main, i.e. increase the diameter. As equipped from Catalina, it's too skinny even with gloves.

Pretty simple actually. Attach the new halyard to the old halyard using wipping thread. Yea, that means sewing the two together. Tape is not the preferred method as you could lose the line inside. I had Millwalkee rigging splice eyes on the ends so I need to cut the eyes off my old halyards first. My mast is off the boat and sitting on sawhorses in my polebarn. Will make an easy job of it, Of course it is my wife's present, I should make her do it!

Oh by the way. Cannot say more about Milwaukee rigging for service and for the best prices on the net. Here is their link - it is an Ebay store. He has so many auctions going on, and business is slow that he told me that price end up very low right now. So get your wives some new halyards!

I won one auction and ask him to double the order and ship together. He would not match the auction price of the first order (wow, it was low) but he gave me a great price overall and included the eye splices. Very well made eyes also.

He sells mostly sta-set but has added the sta-set X which is a little more expensive but better for halyards.

The proper line from catalina is 65 feet of 5/16 rope. I've already had a conversation with catalina and they said the pulleys up in the top of the mast will NOT handle anything bigger. the 5/16 is plenty big. Maybe yours was replaced with something smaller. Compare the size before you purchase. I also found out that catalina used pretty bad quality rope for my halyards on my boat. The cores were crushed by the spinlock cleats and would not hold. That's why I am replacing them.

I replaced my entire running rig with line from Milwaukee Rigging http://stores.ebay.com/Milwaukee-Rigging this last season. Great pricing and service.
