Hi All, I brought my sails into a local sail shop the other day and the guy showed me a used cruzing spinnaker for $200.00 or a whisker pole for $100.00. I don't have $300.00 so it has to be one or the other. Which one would you buy? Cheers.

Hi Derek, it is a 7 to 17' As I understand the use of a whisker pole is that it is used in light air to get the jib out away from the boat. In light air wouldn't I be better off with a spinnaker? I am new to this boat so don't know what would be the better overall choice. I do not plan on racing. Cheers.

buy the pole - I'll take the crusing spinnaker. Do you know the fabric weight and is it for the tall rig or standard? Is the sail in good condition?

By the way, you'll probably use the pole more often. How big is your largest jib? Poling out the jib makes a big difference, especially in waves, and adds about 1 full knot to my downwind speed.

Hi Jim, I don't know the weight of the faberic but is seems more like mylar than fabric. I is really light. I don't know if it is for a SR or TR. At the time, I did not know what I had. I now know I have a SR. If I buy the pole, I'll email you his name and number. Cheers.

Sounds more like a lightweight drifter/ reaching jib if its of a mylar composition. Doubtful its one of the newer code zeros, especially for our boat, but who knows.

For what it is worth, I vote for the wisker pole. Besides being an excellent buy for a 25 ft. boat, you'll find you'll get a lot more use, and help get you out of trouble with that lil puppy in all kinds of light air situations....so at a 100 bucks and a great "tool" for your boat, it's a no brainer.

You'll eventually probably want a spinnacker...especially if you decide to get into regattas..but start with the wisker pole.

sounds cool for $200, I need my 8th headsail

60, 110, 135 roller, 135 laminate, 155 laminate, 170, spinnaker + maybe new asym!

By the way, I'd bet it is nylon (for that price). My spin is nylon 0.5 oz and its so light it feels like a plastic shopping bag. But much much tougher.
