I'm removing my 9.9 yamaha 4 stroke for service and want to replace the motor bracket. Does anyone have a suggestion? The Garelick 71091 looks great but the price is hefty. Would like a good alternative.

I would only reccomend the garhauer mount offered at Catalina Direct. It is sturdy, long lasting, and travels down as far as it goes up. It was original equipment fro Catalina. There are many pictures and previous discussion on this topic.

Happy with the Garhauer here... The new 'heavy lift' model is the ticket for the new portly 4 strokes.

The 4 spring Garhauer matches up with same holes as the 2 spring Garhauer that used to be on my boat. I think that is a huge benefit minimizing installation. I have a section on my website that details my recent installation. It took some time but relatively easy. Basically, taking nuts off the old one, pulling the bracket off, scraping/rubbing the old sealant off of the transom, installing the new bracket with sealant and bolts dangling until carefully pushing thru exact fit into old holes, then tightening bolts with a few wrenches wedged on inside cabin/transom side and....reinstalling motor.

I found the new bracket tight initially with it not wanting to go into the lower slot setting. Wound up standing on the motor and that served two purposes - first it help loosen up the bracket a bit and confidence that the bracket installation was on rock solid. After the first 5-10 times out using new bracket - It works very well. Only stiffness that still remains a bit is that to raise motor, the motor has to be pushed down inorder to free the bracket enough to get it out of the slots and raise the motor. It is loosening up with each time I use it so this is getting better but wind up pushing the motor down with a little bit of foot pressure to get it to release.

I have an old 4 stroke Honda which is about 5-10 lbs lighter than current 4 stroke being sold. Given more time or a slightly heavier new motor, the bracket would probably release a bit easier with just hand pressure. Raising the motor after it releases from the slots is a piece of cake compared to using a block and tackle with the old motor.

I'm happy using an old Garelick (eight spring)model that I've updated with a new plastic mounting block and stainless support backing. Worked well for ten years with the old Johnson Sailmaster, and now equally well with the new Nissan four stroke, both under one hundred pounds.

Thanks for the insight. I think I'll stick to the Garhauer from CD.
