Ok, I'm making progress and am getting to the mast. The stick on my 25 has been stored outside on a rack for several years at the catalina dealership in Cedar Springs there is a lot of streaking on it and I would like to clean it up. Have any of you had experience making the aluminum bright again? (without using something harsh that will compromise integrity)

soap and water, maybe a little solvent for any glue/paint residue.

But don't use any abrasives on it (sandpaper, scouring pad, cleansers) as it will damage the protective oxidation on the aluminum.

Some have painted their masts using expoxy paints - but rumor is they look good for a few weeks, then get all marked/scratched up by halyard slap, and all the other elements that crash around out there.

On my previous boat, with a black annodized mast and boom, I used the same 3M or similar cleaner-wax I used on the hull. It had a very mild abrasive that didn't seem to hurt the annodizing--I did that for 20 years and the spars looked new when I sold the boat--especially the boom, which didn't get flogged by the halyards. On my "new" '85 C-25, I haven't bothered trying... It's way beyond that. If I get the teak looking good, maybe nobody'll notice!

You might give "Never Dull" a whirl - available at most hardware outlets.
