Anyone familiar with the Moorings operation in Abacos?

More specifically, when we did a Moorings charter in Tortola a few yeras ago there was a grocery store close enough that we did all of the own provisioning for the boat ourselves and were able to use a taxi to get 'the goods' to the marina. We are doing a charter in Abacos over spring break and was curious if there is a similar situation there. Anyone been there or know if there is a store close enough to provision oursleves?

Thanks in advance!

I've sailed in the lower Abacos, but haven't chartered there. Where exactly in the Abacos are you talking about? Marsh Harbour? Got a link to a map?

Leon,

Yes, we'll pick up the boat at Marsh Harbour and then plan to do a circuit of the Sea, probably tending to spend more time to the north of Marsh Harbour.

Bren,

Good map. Yes, you should have no problem provisioning in Marsh Harbour, it's the closest thing to a city in the Abacos. When I was there in 2003, I counted two grocery stores, two liqueur stores, two hardware stores, a couple boating/fishing supply shops, etc. Some were within reasonable walking distance of the waterfront, all were within a few dollars in cab fare. As you probably know, the population density and shopping options thin out as you go further north in the Abacos. Be sure to listen to the cruisers net in the morning, and get a fresh report on conditions before using Whale Cay Passage. If that's your float plan in red on the map, I think you'll have a wonderful adventure!

Bren,

My charts for Abacos, Marsh Harbor list the following Groceries:
A&A food stores
Abaco market
Bahamas family market
Conch Inn Marina Store
Long Landing Seafood and Produce
Mini Market at Boat Harbour
Price Right
Roderick's Convience
Sawyers Market
Solomons Brothers Wholesale

They also list every necessity possible, but too long to go into
here. It should be available through Google.

Mind you I've never been there just getting ready

Thanks, guys! I'll try the 'Google' search and see what I can find. Let you know after our trip how it went.

We have rented cottages and sailed out of Hopetown, Elbow Cay several times past. It's a great harbour and Vernon's store will have all the provisions you need. Home baked bread daily. A couple of nice restaurants, and the beach on the ocean side is perfect.
Man O' War is noted for ships stores and excellent icecream. You can easily walk both of these islands.
Marsh Harbour has taxis and provisions might be a little cheaper. The weather is great. Have a good time.

Definitely can provision in Marsh Harbour. Conch Inn Marina is where the parents of a friend of mine lived for about 10 years. Liquor store and grocery are a short drive away. If you sail the abacos, plan your wales tail passage carefully, it can be some interesting water. Green Turtle has a nice beach a short walk from the docks but watch out for ticks along the trail.

Dear Bren: I see you are stopping at Green Turtle Cay and Munjack on your charter schedule. I suggest you get to the northern end of Munjack just after noon when the charter fishing people have finished bringing their picnic folks to this "deserted" island for cleaning fish and lunch. The sharks will be in the shallows by the dock to feed off the fish chum. .
Yours,
Ron
