So - Last summer I sold my beloved Catalina 25 and bought an Evelyn 26. A series of events has caused me to sell the Evelyn (shortly - buyer is at sea on a merchant ship) and move back in a more cruisy direction. In so doing, I went through a lot of ideas for boats and reached the conclusion that my C25 was a damn fine boat. Ultimately we picked a different boat to move to, but I don't think I ever quite realized just how close to perfect the C25 is. I miss her! (Downbucket - take care of my girl!!)
Fine indeed! Perfect? That depends entirely on your needs. Mine have changed since my late wife and I bought Passage... She's a fine vessel, but maybe not perfect for me now. What "different boat" did you pick?
Buying a Pearson 30 - not sure which one yet, looking at a couple, but have settled on the model. Does well as race boat in our fleet, cruisable, get you home through most anything.
Small world, I too like the Pearson 30. Due to my situation, I'll probably go back to a trailerable c-25.
About the Pearson,
Are you getting one with a wheel or tiller? Practical Sailor has a great (and very positive) review of the boat. Say's the spade rudder is a bear in reverse.
Hey PW, the movie links do not load when I click on them. The "Q" for quicktime comes up but then nothing. I don't know if this is your site, but I thought I'd mention it. Cheers.
Dennis, They aren't quicktime fles, they are MPG's. Right click and do a "Save Target As" or the equivalent on your system and open them in something other than Quicktime.
P30 tiller is my first choice. One of the boats I'm flirting with has a wheel, but I'd probably remove it. That funny looking rudder is remarkably well balanced undersail - though it gets unwieldy in reverse! I've sailed a bunch on a p30, including an overnight race last night. They're great boats. Not much interior volume compared to Catalina 30 and others, but points well, doesn't get weatherhelm, and bashes through anything.
That said - had I realized I'd be going from C25 to P30 instead of the boats I thought I'd be moving to, I think I'd have kept the C25!
