I have an EZ Steer hard link kit on order. I am going to try it out with C Clamps, make sure it works like I hope. If so, I need to drill a couple of holes in my rudder. Which leads to a question or two:
Is the rudder solid, or is it cored? If cored, I assume I use the same bigger then smaller hole method that is used for chain plates etc to get epoxy in the hole and prevent water getting into the core?
What type of epoxy do you recommend?
Thanks.
P.S. I think I got a "parallel to the current" slip, to make my docking challenge a bit easier, although I think it only has a finger on one side, so not quite as nice as the old slip that way. Anyway, no more dramatic cross current arrivals. Whoo hoo!

It's both - solid in some place, cored in others and even has some voids in it. My E-Z steer has a backing plate that fits on the opposite side of the one with the arm attached. One thing I did was to put a cable tie around the release cylinder on the rudder attachment - that way you can operate release with one hand while the other hank can hang on or stead the connecting rod. ALSO ATTACH A LINE TO THE CONNECTING BAR. You don't want to loose it to the fishes. I use a short length of cord with a caribeneer (? spelling) attached to it.
Frankr do you have any pics of that set up? I need to figure out how to disconnect my EZ so I can raise the motor during sailing. The drilling on the rudder caused no problems.
No and I am 4 hours from the boat. Basicly I attached a wire tie tightly around the top portion of the brass connector part that slides up and down. I trim off the end of the wire tie. This allows me to hold the E-Z steer linkage with four fingers while I depress the slider with my thumb enough that I can remove or connect the linkage. The wire tie allows my thumb enough of a grip to move the slider downward enough to allow insetting or removing the linkage. - Hope this helps.
