Thank you so much for thinking of me!!! I found a swing keel in California for $200 and my sister's trucking company is going to ship it for free. I have a white sail. Can I successfully use red dye to turn it red?

Why???????

I don't think the dye will hold but, check with a sail loft.

what kind of sail is it? If its a spinnaker, no, if its a jib or main maybe, but WHY?

Your new playground involves water, water and dye involves running, staining and spotting. Dye can also mess with the fabric and weaken it. Since your going to be around water and your deck is white, I wouldn't do it.

Beyond that, when you are heading downwind and you get a major windshift, sailors don't say I put up my red sail. They say - it was blowing like stink and we caught a crazy shift that clocked 180degrees. We were forced to go white sail and beat to the finish.

so the answer is I wouldn't.
