Hi:

Does anyone have a picture(s) showing the factory installed holding tank in the port settee which they can post? This spring I will be replacing the rubber holding tank with a hard one and wanted to see how the factory installed one looked.

Thanks.

Will - I think you're going to find that you'll need to remove the thru-hull and seacock under the setee to get a tank in there. When you do, use this process to save some heartache.

I installed the through hull with 5200 for a host of reasons we can argue about over a beer sometime. In short, however, unless you free up the 5200 you're going to have a nitemare getting the thing out of there to make room to slide the tank in. So - get a guitar string. If you don't have a guitar around I'll donate a couple of used strings. (I play a 12 string, mostly, so I have tons when I change strings) Wrap the ends of the string around a couple of tools or dowels to make a garotte. Don't put said garotte in your pocket to avoid prosecution for concealing a weapon ;). Use the garotte as a wire saw to cut under the flange of the nut on the through-hull to loosen it from the hull. Do the same thing on the outside of the hull to free the mushroom from the glass. You will then be able to unscrew the nut and knock the through-hull out. DO NOT JUST TRY TO REMOVE IT WITH FORCE. If you do, you will take glass out with the mushroom.

If you have to remove and replace any of the through-hulls, including the depth and speed transducers, do the same thing. They're all installed with 5200.

We can argue the merits of 5200 as a sealant at some point. From my perspective, I don't like things to leak and its the best sealant out there bar none.

As for installing a tank - I looked into doing just that since I didn't like the bag either. I found that unless I was willing to move the tank to the bow under the v-berth, or under the starboard setee or quarterberth, I was going to have a hard time. Had I kept the boat, I'd have installed a new bag in the same location to avoid the necessity of filling the existing outlet hole and cutting a new one.

Hi Justin:

Thanks for the info. What do you think about having a custom made tank to fit or would you opt for installing it under the v-berth which I have thought about after reading about a similar installation by a member here? I do not want to do another bag!
