I was thinking of purchasing an outdoor camera from www.X10.com to mount at the masthead. I'm not sure how much these weigh, but how much is too much weight aloft? I was thinking about adding rotation (either solenoid/motor based, or using pulleys and light line), but I think it'd be too heavy.
Any thoughts?

I love it. Though I take every oportunity to reduce mast top weight, even removing the antenna and puting it on the stern, but the camera there is interesting. Some cameras are the size of a diode and would not add a significant amount of weight aloft. The weight would be at the other end of the cable, in the cabin I presume.
Besides, if you aim it south you might see CALISTA # 3936 in Patchogue, L.I.
A camera the size of a diode? I've never seen one of these. Do you have any links to such a product? How's the resolution? (I'm sure it won't be good enough to see CALISTA :)
I've seen 'pan and tilt' cameras for under $1k, though the range of motion is less than desireable (60/45 degrees). I'd like to have 360 degrees of rotation on both axes.
