If you want to get a quick birds eye view of everything we are talking about go to Google Earth . Its not very good detail in the North Sound and San Juans but it will give you a very good idea about prox with relation to locations. LaConner and the swinomish chanel Cap Santi marina, Thatcher Pass and so on. If you dont have google earth down load it for free. http://earth.google.com/

kevin. as for stepping the mast, i cant vouch for a 250, but we step the 25 sr with just two guys and no helper rigging (a frame etc). the port people have offered to help me a couple times as well.

Kevin

Each summer we trailer our 250WB "Close Quarters" from the Bay Area up to my mother-in-law's island in South Puget Sound. Last year we decided that a little variety was in order and week in the San Juans was the ticket. We sought out the most convenient place to launch and, after considering many alternatives mentioned in previous posts, found the Washington Park launch ramp just past the San Juan Ferry terminal in Anacortes. Keep in mind that our intention was to sail immediately to Friday Harbor directly after launching. The Washington Park ramp is near the west end of Rosario Straight which can have hellatious tides and currents. We consulted the local tide book, launched at slack and rode the ebb out. Planned for the reverse on the return. The facility is not fancy, just a decent launch ramp, grass parking area for car and trailer ($7/day), and basic facilities, but it is the most expeditious gateway to the San Juans.
