In the Tech. Tips are a couple of photos of Origo non-pressurized stoves in place of the original stoves. I can't tell from the photos whether the new stoves are mounted on gimbles. If you've mounted an Origo stove with gimbles would you please tell me about the process?
TIA

What a coincidence!! Friday evening I was at my boat and decided I'd try tackling this very job. My Origo 3000 alcohol stove has always been screwed into the surrounding stainless enclosure. When I bought the boat there was an 8x8 inch box containing gimbals for the stove. I had never found a good photo of how these are used/installed until Friday night when I checked the internet...search on Origo 3000 alcohol stove... The company that sells them is "Origo AB Sweden" in Sarasota, Fl. www.origo-sweden.com/products/3000.asp Click on the Operators Manual....go to page four...there you'll see a line drawing of the stove and how the gimbals are mounted. Looks like the mounting bracket is attached up and down, something I was soon going to try, the next time I was at the boat. I have yet to actually do the project but I will get to it Sunday afternoon....I would have done it today but the wind was 10 - 15 and the lake was flat. Want to guess what we did instead??? Gary Norgan Sailing on Perris Lake near Riverside, CA
I replaced the original Princess many years ago with an Origo 3000 plus gimbals. The new stove fits in the same stainless steel tray that the old stove came out of and I was able to use the same holes on the tray sides for the new gimbals. Here's a photo from the Tech Tips section.
Okay, Bill, good picture but I need help on where to screw in the gimbals exactly and in what orientation. I think the mounting plate should be vertical but your picture doesn't show me how far back from the front of the metal enclosure it should be mounted. And does the stove pivot back when lowering or forward in the enclosure? On my enclosure there seems to be a brass flat knob on each side that the gimbals need to clear when being moved. Does the mounting plate get screwed in below these with the end of the mounting plate on the floor of the enclosure? I know...lots of questions but I want to "measure once and get it right". Thanks, Bill. Gary in SoCal
Hey, Steve, look...71. Catch me if you can. My boat is just plain faster than yours!!
On Snickerdoodle, the holes in the Origo gimbal setup matched the holes in the stainless steel tray. So, all I did was to unscrew the old Princess stove's gimbal screws (kind of a knurled knob) and reused the same with the Origo gimbal. It took longer to bolt the Origo gimbals to the stove than to mount it in place.
If you are having to drill new holes in the SS tray, the main consideration would be that the bottom of the Origo stove is able to swing out when you're on a port tack (heeled to starboard). Also, of course, that the stove is level.........otherwise all the eggs will migrate to one side of the frying pan.
