Halyards to Cockpit Shopping List

So,

I'm off to Defender this weekend to buy supplies for running my halyards to the cockpit. Below is my shopping list:

4 Masthead sheaves (ordering from Bellpat Matine)
Mastplate organizer (buying from Catalina Direct)
Turning blocks
2 double stacked deck organizers
2 triple rope clutches
Main halyard (5/16" x 70' eye splice on both ends)
Jib Halyard (5/16" x 70' eye splice on both ends)
2 winches to mount to cabin-top (looking for used or salvaged on e-bay. Would like Lewmar 7s, but will settle for what I can get. Also, There is a winch already on the mast, but I don't remember what it is. I may just move that one to the cabin-top. Suggestions?)

What am I forgetting or overlooking? What will make the whole experience easier, faster, better? What would you do differently?

I'm going to do the work myself, but this will be the first major project I will undertake on the boat and I'm a bit nervous.

Can you get the halyard eye splices through the rope clutches??

Also, do you plan on using a jib dousing line?

I don't know if I'll be able to get the splice through the rope clutch, that's an excellent question. I figured I'd get the double end splice to swap them out end for end each season, but that may not work. I will be sure to find out before I have the halyards cut and spliced, though.

The jib halyard at this point is just a redundancy. The boat currently has CDI roller furling with its own halyard, but that may be upgraded in the not-so-distant future. I may as well replace them both now, however.

I too am going to undertake that project. To save time and potential mis-matches I am considering the kit from CD. Do you have an idea what your project is going to cost you?

The kit is about $500 but it is hard to break the components down to shop them them out separately.

Between that and painting the bottom I am going to have my hands full. Tax season ends 4/16 and launch day is 4/22 so my fee time is going to be pretty thin.

I think it's going to cost about $700 or so, depending on what kind of deal I can get on winches. The reasons I'm not going with the CD kit:

1. I want the halyards eye spliced on both ends. If the splices will not fit through the rope clutches, this point is moot.
2. The CD kit only comes with double deck organizers, I want double stacked organizers to give myself room to grow as I decide to run more lines aft.
3. The CD kit comes with single rope clutches. I want triples for the same reason as stated above.
4. Many on this forum have complained that the masthead sheaves they got from CD did not fit properly and ended up returning them and purchasing from Bellpat Marine. I'm trying to skip a step.

The short answer (I realize I'm too late for that) is that I want better (or maybe just different) components than what CD puts in their kit.

Can you wait for Defenders Annual Warehouse Sale on March 30th ?
'Room to grow' is a good idea-get triple stacked organizers(I wish I had).
I've been very happy with turning blocks and mast base plate from Garhauer-direct.
Why does the eyesplice need to be at both ends and go through the rope clutch? I used 1/4" line with a buntline hitch at the halyard shackle(cheap/easy).
Get some epoxy,mixing agents,etc.for all the holes you'll be making in the cabin top.
This is a fun project but I would allow more time to do it right.Your statement about CDs kits is so true.Good luck!
