Due to circumstances beyond my control, I have had to put my boat up for sale. This morning I received an "offer" from someone in the UK (see below). Everything about it seems odd. Alarms are going off in my head.
Has anyone else seen this before? Personally, I'll pass.
Thanks!

One look at the english language usage will tell you to watch out. as the link above attests you get a phony check or some other thing it all ends up cleaning out your checking acount.
Greg, your suspicions are well taken. What businessman would consider buying a USA boat, probably at market high price, and pay to ship it to Europe to be restored and then resold?
Just the shipping would likely exceed the value of the boat.
A couple of weeks ago I bid on a spinnaker on Ebay, but was outbid by someone. The next morning I got an e-mail, supposedly through Ebay on a screen that looked just like Ebay's, saying the buyer reneged, and telling me I could buy it at my last bid. The "seller" said he was "vacationing" in London, and I should wire the money to him by Western Union. I checked with Ebay and they said it was a fraud.
This was the first time I ever bid on anything on Ebay, and I'm beginning to suspect that anytime you bid on any item with a value in the hundreds of dollars, you can almost expect someone in a foreign country to contact you and try to con you. My record is one for one. IMHO, if a foreigner wants to do business with you over the net, you can assume it's a fraud. It's always easier to do business locally than overseas.
You're right Steve, it's sometimes difficult dealing with local shops even, much less someone who's thousands of miles away. I can't imagine that I'd be so intent on selling something that I'd take such a chance.
Tell them that you will do the deal, have them send you the check, and ship them the Catalina 25 model, I have seen this before, and I have seen some great jokes played on these people, thinking we are all stupid....

If you make it a personal thing with these people, they might make you their hobby, using their creativity to think of ways to harass and annoy you, such as sending you emails laced with viruses, or slandering your good name and reputation all over the internet. Because they operate in a foreign country, there's not much you can do to them, but there's still a lot that they can do to you, if you give them a good reason.
