Bottom view of a storage shelf added last year just aft of the head. We're very happy with the space utilisation. 1) Unit is suspended from the back of the head and side of the storage locker. 2) Note Velcro strap holding the pop top frame in place. 3) Note 3/8 teak strip added to the bottom of the companion way storage unit to allow plexiglas and boats standard hatch closure to be stored side by side.
Top view of storage shelf installed behind the head. The shelf is suspended from the head's bulkhead and side of the locker. Note Velcro strap holding the pop top frame in place.

Tom: You'll appreciate having the additional "of the floor" storage.
The material bought was a standard 4 x 8 ft 5/16 thick sheet with a type of white plastic coating on one side and nice smooth popular type wood finish on the other. Cost is $23.00 Canadian, less if the sheet shows small imperfections. It matches the boat's interior texture and color shade very closely and is nearly impossible to decect as a do-it-yourself add-on.

I used teak for the edges, and supports and 3/4 inch diameter chromed/aluminium tubing (left over from my galley shelf project) for support from the shelf's corner to the locker wall. One good size fastener is all it takes on both ends.
The shelf is used for the boats paperwork, navigation's and other stuff briefcases, emergency flares, flashlights, first aid/emergency kit etc.
