Looking at the list of participants in the 2006 nationals, there seems to be an error!

Where are the 250s?

Is this association ruled by the 25's!

It's hard to believe there isn't one more C250 owner with a sporting spirit on Lake Erie, or in nearby Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, etc., who'll come and make a race of it.

I think the C250 tends to appeal to cruisers more than racers. Actually, that's the way it was with the C25s back in the late 1970's-early 1980's. People thought of the C25 as a big, heavy, spacious cruising boat for the older folks, until they found out how competitive it could be, even against boats that were designed more specifically for racing. In the 2003 and 2004 National Regattas, the C250 proved that it could not only compete with the C25s, but beat them in the right conditions.

But, if you're more a cruiser than a racer, don't let that deter you from sailing around the buoys in Cleveland. Our racing isn't "go for the throat" racing. It's more like "racing among friends," and if you aren't there, you'll miss out on a lot of fun.

I've been sailing Lake Erie for over 10 years and I've never laid eyes on a C250!

Even in my little reservoir 2 hours south of Erie, where we have a pretty respectable sailing club, we don't have a single C250. We have 7 or 8 C25s, a ton of H24's & H26's, but regrettably no C250s. I sure wish we had some C250s; those Hunter owners need to be taken down a peg or two.

Ben - why can't you beat the Hunters with a C25??
We have a bunch of them on Canyon Lake (the original marina owner was a Hunter dealer)and not one of them - of any size - can stay with our C25.

Derek,

Why can't we C25'ers beat the Hunters? Well, we probably could if any of us knew how to race worth a darn. I hope to learn more about racing myself this year. The H26's seem to be considered fast, however, by the folks here in my club. I know they have a longer water line, making them faster, but the difference may be the knowledge of their skippers.

Anyway, hopefully I'll be able to tell everyone how successful I've become by the time Nationals comes around.
