I just ordered a new Tohatsu 4-stroke engine and while trying to find a new mounting pad for my existing bracket I read something that raised an alarm. I saw a SS adjustable lift-bracket and there was a warning that the bracket was not designed for a 4-stroke engine as those had too much torque.

Do I have to replace the original bracket with a new one to accommodate the new engine?

Hi Steve... Others have put the same engine on the original Garhauer bracket (tubular stainless) with no reported problems. The new Tohatsu/Nissan 9.8 is more in line with the weight and thrust of 2-strokes, while the Honda and Yamaha 4-strokes are considerably heavier and have more thrust (due to larger, lower-pitch props). You should be fine. Catalina Direct has a replacement mounting block for the Garhauer braket--it's made of plastic with a stainless plate with a lip for security.

Other perspective... never pass up a chance to upgrade critical equipment. I bought the Garhauer 4 spring from Catalina Direct and am very glad I did.
