I've never seen it done that way, that's why I asked. Usually the straps are put in line with the bulkheads on either side of the keel. The keel is generally centerline, your not really supporting the aft end of the boat and your point of contact and support is singular using the keel method above. You are in contact with more surface area the other way.
Rick, The small racers are amazing with respect to launching boats. It makes the c25’s and 250’s and anyone else look like amateurs. Most of the ones I’ve seen are J22’, Stars and J24’s. They all dry sail (no need to paint bottom to slow them down, and they don’t get waterlogged either) and within a 40 minute period I’ve seen over 20 boats launch from 2 hoists. It is a very neat setup on all of those boats – plus the center of gravity remains below where the load is carried.
In reference to the Alberg:
Maybe so, but I have never seen that. Especially on a 29 footer. The straps in my experience on any boat have always been in relation to the bulkheads I could see a number of additional things with that
1- puts way more stress on the keel in an environment where it can rock and sway – Cracking along the seem (also referred to as the Catalina smile) 2- center of gravity is way way higher
I might be wrong, that is why I asked – it doesn’t seem right to me though.
I think Dennis is right. It's a full keel boat. The Alberg's keel extends all the way aft, almost to the transom, and the rudder is attached to the aft end of the keel. The aft lifting strap has to rest on the keel. On our boats, the fin keel ends 2-3 feet aft of the center of the boat, and from that point back to the transom, the strap can wrap directly around the hull.

I know what you mean. The forward strap can slide forward and drop the boat. If you could see it from the side you would see the straps are lashed together to prevent them from spreading.
