Hi everybody. The weather is getting warmer here on the NJ coast and I'll be back in my 1983 Catalina 25 soon. When I left the boat last fall I noticed my whale pump faucet was leaking behind the drawers. I did a little research and found there was a "repair kit" available. What exactly would a repiar kit include? Should I get that and see if I can repair the leak before purchasing a new sink faucet?
Definitely worth trying since the repair is simple and the Whale Flipper that I have is $80 new West Marine. I've rebuilt both of them on my 83, last time the galley sink was leaking like yours from a detoriated gasket at the base. The kit I got from WM included: Whale - AK0405 Service Kit - Flipper MK3 & MK4 The Whale AK0405 Spares Kit is for Flipper Mk3 and Mk4 pumps. It contains 1 valve stem, 1 valve, 5 o-rings, 2 buffers, 1 valve ball, 1 cup washer, 1 bucket ring and a gasket. Strange that today, the picture w/this part number on the WM site doesn't show the above contents so I would verify contents with them. Good luck.
I replaced the galley faucet with a Fynspray Rocker--like it better (but hardly ever use it). It pumps as you move the lever both directions and seems to move more water per stroke. In the dinette interior, it's a bear to get to the underside of that faucet!
