Rick - If you haven't closed the hole up, I'd put a thru hull and seacock in and skip the tank. Why do you prefer the tank route?
If you do put in a tank, you need vent. Otherwise as the water level in the tank rises, the tank will become pressurized and will not accept more water.
I plan to visit some no discharge areas in the future and since the thru hull was weeping, I thought this was the opportunity to make the change. Thanks for the answer, I wasn't sure if the drain acted as its own vent or not.
If you need to go no discharge in the future, you could just close the seacock and stick the hose in a gallon milk jug. When Casco Bay goes "no discharge" it will apply to black water only, not gray water.
