Has anyone used or familiar with a device called EZSteer? It is a customized adjustable linkage between your rudder and outboard. For those who only have to motor 50 feet before raising the sails, it may not be a worthy endeavor but for those who have do tight backing and motoring to get out to open water it may be plausible.
I've seen these in magazines and they make a version for sailboat "kickers" so I was curious if anyone had experience with them? Thanks in advance for any insight.
Tomorrow is my scheduled launch day and I am finding it hard to sleep. In addition to the excitement of the start of the season, I'm also making my list and checking it twice so I don't forget anything vitally important that I can't take on my next trip to the marina.
It shouldn't take long to figure out whether those new thru hulls are sealed and seaworthy!
I am in the process of installing an EZ Steer hard link on my C250WK. I have my outboard on a bracket that puts it about a foot out from the transom. On the C250, this means that there is quite an angle between the rudder and the outboard, and I am having challenges getting the clearence correct. When I get it right, I will post pictures.
The device seems well made, and the company is incredibly helpful on the phone.
You disconnect it manually before raising the outboard. If you search on EZ Steer (I hope, I have not tried the search) you should find some pictures and description of the use of this product on a C250.
And, as I said, when I get it worked out, I will post pictures. It is raining here today, and I am getting over a cold, so no boat work for me today...
Kevin, I'm looking forward to those pics when you get the EZSteer installed. I'll bet it IS a challenge on a 250. I would probably only use it backing out of the marina, but since I have wheel steering, it sure would be nice to only be steering one item instead of two! Thanks for being my guinnea pig on the mechanism! :)
