I'll forego the extra credit as I don't have a pic... and I'm not sure my solution is applicable beyond my own needs.
When I bought my C250 I kept the Honda 8 4 stroke from my C22. It worked ok but the 250 really needed an XLS for the cruising I do.
This created a problem however as the new motor was too heavy to move to the dingy as I'd done so often with the Honda Classic and having a motor to plane the dink was nice and I had it.
Needed was a place to store it and a way to manage. Storage is done in the aft berth (I don't sleep there) on a wood pallet with a carpeted bottom (the berth cushions are not carried on the boat either). Getting the motor on and off the pallet is not much problem at 79lbs but lugging it up the companionway and through and around the wheel is a deal killer. So, I use the mast raising gin pole... it works like a champ both for the outboard as well as dinghy on the foredeck for longer passages.
Rick - We almost always tow the dink with the engine on it. if not, we sometimes pull the engine off and tow the dinhgy without it. I put the engine on the floor of the cockpit on those occasions, with someting down to protect it. In five years, I deflated the dinghy and brought it aboard only once - to go to boothbay, about 40 miles. On the way home I didn't bother.
On the new boat, we're going to ultimately have a dinghy engine hoist off of the radar mount to put the engine on the rail - but our dinghy engine is much heavier than our old one.
Dave, in what area of Lowe's did you find the PVC plank? I went to our local Lowe's and they had no idea what I was talking about or were it might be in the store, if they had it.
I remember it was NOT near any of the lumber. I think it was near the garage door stuff. It was certainly not where I would have expected to find it. It's being sold as outside trim for windows and garage doors. They had other pieces that were cut like molding. I found it at two different Lowes stores here in Maryland. It's pretty neat stuff. I've used my table saw, power sander, and power drill on it. Send me an e-mail if you can't find it and I'll see if I can get a stock number for you next time I'm at Lowes. (FYI: I haven't been able to find it at Home Depot.)
Thanks dave, I will check the garage/window stuff on my next visit. It would be nice if Homey Depot had it since I can go there in my golf cart and not have to use my truck. Gas is getting higher by the minute.
I have tied my Mariner 8 dink motor and the deflated dink on the foredeck. Not the best place but I didn't want it underfoot in the cockpit. I have thought of securing it to a stantion mounted board but I don't think I have a stantion strong enough. Most of the time I just inflate the dink and put the motor on and pull it astern. I carry an extra 6 gallon gas tank in the bow of the dink to help hold the nose down and off set the weight of the motor in the back.
