They have a great 'trip planner' that reviews the weather history since 1997(ish) and provide some very neat observations that should help plan your next trip.. You'll probably go anyway, but it's nice to know the chances of rain/cloud/temp/humidity etc.
There was a small weather station on lake lanier that I used, I even had a link to it on my web page. It was run by someone on platium dock. That was until yesterday when the storms blew through. The wind destroyed 4 docks and tore up a bunch of boats.
Before the storms blew through, a fellow sailor had a weather station set up on his boat at his dock so the wind speed and other reports were very accurate for the lake. Not like reports from an airports several miles inland. The power is still out on most of the docks in the marina as they continue repairs. I hope the weather station is back up soon.
Tom, I was skirting the storm in Iowa. I had such a severe crosswind that I lost a windshield wiper!!! I had flashbacks of the Cumberland Is trip. I am in WA now and am heading back in 6 weeks to pickup Family and boat. Glad you are ok. I hear it was fierce a little south of you.
