Hi, it often occurs that my username/ password boxes goe blank and I must reenter this info. Usually rentering the requested info works for a time. For the last few days the username/ password boxes remain blank. It's doing it now as well...what gives? Should I allow my paranoi
Have you tried re-entering your username and password, Val? If so, then you probably don't have an expired cookie, but some other problem. Let one of us know what happens by email, if necessary.
JB, thanks for your response. I've re-entered my username and password several times in the last few days and when I do I'm told that I've "logged on sucessfully", then when the forum page comes up the username/ password boxes are blank. Any help appreciated.
Oh, maybe that is a cookie problem. It sounds as if your privacy settings for your browser may be set too high. You might want to check, assuming that you're using MS-Internet Explorer, Tools/Internet Options/Privacy to see how your computer is set for cookie acceptance. Mine is set to Medium, but I also use a host of programs to protect my computer (e.g., Norton Internet Security 2006, MS-Windows Defender, etc). Alternatively, you can place the forum in the Trusted Sites category under Tools/Internet Options/Security, but I'd reserve that as your last option.
Thanks again JB. My security levels are set as you suggest.
It may be a cookie problem because recently I've been getting a notice to accept or reject cookies at various places. It's like cookies have been disallowed or wiped clean on my pc and any new site that I visit requires that I accept their cookie. And I thought crystal radios were difficult.

There is one other thing you can check. Go to Tools/Internet Options/Privacy/Advanced and make sure the box "Override automatic cookie handling" is NOT checked.
Good to hear, Val. One other thing that I thought of, and it falls into my own personal "Oh, yeah, duh" category, is to make sure that the "Remember my password" box is clicked when you log into the forum. ;-)
BTW, if you ever sent that check for the burgee, I haven't received it, yet.
Duane, it always is, but in frustration I tried it without today hoping that that might make a difference, it didn't. I'm ready to try a RESTORE protocol thinking that there is something on my pc currently causing the problem. The only thing holding me back from doing that is the thought that the problem might be on this site.
I had the GEEK SQUAD here today, ($364), and they said that this machine is functioning as normal, suggesting the problem that I described to them is not on this end. I would hate to write this forum off but trying to participate here is, well, TRYING !
I just don't get what might be happening, Val. There has been no problem for me, and presumably everyone else, as I've been logged on continuously since we began this discussion, no matter how many times I have closed my browser or turned off my system. I'm truly sorry that it's not working properly.
I'm logged on today...did you do anything? I've noticed that upon entering the forum I go directly into the cat 25 site and not into the All Forums site as is usual. This happened a few days ago and then soon after I was off again. I have my fingers crossed.
No, I didn't, as a matter of fact, I can't since I don't have administrative rights (thank goodness!).
Which page you enter first should be a function of which page you established in your Favorites. For example, my Favorites (actually my Home Page) is set to the Active Topics Since Last Visit page. That allows me to see all new posts since my last visit everytime I open MS-Explorer or I return to the forum.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that your problem disappears as quickly as it appeared.
JB, Guess what? You're right. Is there someone on this forum who has the capability to visit this inconvenience on me? I have the feeling that someone is jerking my chain. Paranoia perhaps, but I don't think so.
