I've removed the stanchions in preparation for rebedding them. Several of them appear to have a bent base (Perhaps explaining all the water in the boat). The vertical portion is fine. Has anyone had sucess in returning the base to the original shape?
No, but I replaced my stanchions (and bases) with bases and stanchions from West Marine. The West models are in 2 pieces. They are 21 inches high instead of 18. Also, the bolt holes on the bases don't quite match up - you can use 2 of the 4. Used the same lifelines.
I used an acelylene torch to heat a few bent stantions when I bought my C25 last year. The PO had broken one trying to straighten it cold, and gave me a reduction in price because of it. It was quite easy to weld if you have the right stuff, but better to not break in the first place. Don't overheat though, just enough to bend or lightly forge.
