Today while out sailing we had a problem furling. Eventually we managed to furl and headed back in. The Harken drum had come off the clevis pin and ridden up and the furling line was in a great knot. I eventually got it re-connected again after lowering the boom and slackening the backstay.
However when I re-attached it I noticed that the clevis pin that holds the forestay to the stem head fitting was canted (and that's why I think the furler drum popped off). Recently I upgraded the stem head fitting to the CD version that includes a bow roller. However the hole for the clevis pin is much bigger than the existing clevis pin that holds the forestay on- hence the angle.
I'm unhappy about the loading on the clevis pin with it being on this slight angle, but I'm not sure what to do about it. Harken offer bigger clevis pins but they won't fit through the toggle on the rigging screw. If I get a larger rigging screw that means replacing the entire forestay (I think).
I was wondering if any of you had come across this problem with a Harken furler or a typical 3/16" forestay attached to the CD stem head fitting.
