About a year ago I ordered the light assembly that is half way up the mast. The "deck" bulb is a halogen and did not have a glass (or plastic) cover over it.
I know not to touch halogen bulbs.
The bulb lasted only a few months though. (didn't really use it much... but..)
My question is why no cover? I assume because of heat? But this means the bulb is exposed to the elements? There ought to be a better way???
What do others do? How long have your bulbs lasted?
Yes, I have the same problem, only lasted 6 months, I believe it is due to vibration and exposure. One consulation, you can buy the bulb at Home Depot for about 3 bucks, Phillips 12v 20 watt Halogen. Where is Vandamere? Iam originally from Charlotte.
Yes, I think heat dissipation is the issue. And yes, I think it's a stupid design. The exposed reflector is also going to loose effectiveness as its surface deteriorates. I installed mine maybe five years ago, and I think I'm still on my original bulb in coastal tropic environment. Thanks for the tip on alternative bulb sources.
Vandemere is about 17 miles East of New Bern. Also about the same distance North from Oriental. About 3 NM from ICW between the Pamlico and Neuse Rivers. It's about a 5-6 hr sail from Vandemere to Oriental.

Just give the coordinates and have them plug it into their GPS...
I've recently bought property in Oriental, NC and remember reading this about Vandemere on a Pamilco County tourist web site.
"If you want to raise a quick smile from a Vandemerian just say that you have "passed through" their town. Vandemere is a destination, not a pass through. Generally speaking, you end up in Vandemere because you intended to. Since the town is located on a peninsula that pokes out into the Bay River, it is only occasionally that a visitor comes by water and leaves by land or vice versa." Is that true, Scooter?
