I am sure the fellow in the boat trying to save peoples souls with a bullhorn had good intentions but his "Sure you found the starting line but what about the finish line?" sermon needed work. And just for the record, Jim and I did a Mount Gay vs. Bacardi Rum taste test and Bacardi came in a distant second. If your looking for a good bottle of rum for your galley, give Mount Gay a shot. No pun intended.

Looking at the water, I can't see what's propelling that C-27 past you! Too bad you couldn't just sail! Maybe next year when you get your C&C...

Please keep your camera on board Jim! This poor inland sailor lives vicarioulsy through your stories and pictures. If I could make a request though...take some pictures of the fish you catch and see. I know you may not fish as much, what with all the racing; but I remember that picture of the MolaMola (?) and that whale shark. I still tell people about that. You're my hero, Jim.

I may not always post how much I appreciate your pictures and stories, it's sometimes hard as I steal a minute to read the website from work; but please know that I do enjoy these diversions to San Diego sailing.

For the record, there is NO comparison between Mount Gay and Bacardi. If you keep a bottle around as a "second bottle," you soon be left only with whatever you had first. The MG will disappear that quickly.

Side Note: It is the oldest Rum distillery in the world. Their records date back to 1703, and those records tell of numbers of barrels produced that year, not the beginning of production, so it's even older than that. Refined sugar, by the way, is a by product of rum manufacturing, and therefore is rooted in the MG distillery as well.

And those red hats are ONLY available to participants in Mount Gay sponsored regattas; they are not for sale ANYWHERE and are coveted world wide.

Yes and we were comparing Mt. Gay to the BEST Bacardi. Mt. Gay is smooth enough to drink without ice, water, mixers, anything. The Bacardi tasted like carb cleaner in comparison.

Still have almost a full bottle left. How do they do it? What is the difference? Is it age, filtering, process?

By the way, I'll have more photos to post soon, I received Joe's yesterday.

Dave,
We were wondering the same thing as "Ducky" breezed past us. There was barely enough wind to fill a spinnaker and he was moving at twice our speed. As soon as he passed us he stalled out and we eventually passed him again. At 2 knots or less (including a 1 knot current to our favor) we were measuring our victories in inches. Not what you want to see in a 3 day race. Oh well, pass the rum.

Was it simply way-on? Some times mast height plays a factor, how tall was the "duck"? Ya'know, some times I see a duck late at night, he wanders the docks.

Did anyone notice the knot meter in the shot where I am cleaning the dinner dishes (about the time Ducky passed us). 1.32 knots. And that is not even calibrated right, it reads HIGH (10 on the meter = 6 over the ground, it's basically correct in kilometers per hour).
