I'm installing a CDI furler and have a question on the intallation of the cleat in the coaming near the cockpit. It appears that I can drill through the side into with the hole coming through above the rear most portion of the galley near the electrical panel bulkhead. My question is whether this is a solid location from interior to exterior or is there a gap between the inner hull and outter hull at this location? Through "tapping", it sounds solid. Needless to say, I'm installing the furling line on the port side of the boat.
If it is for the furling line, I've seen some interesting setups for cleating this line. One was a stanchion mounted cleat mounted above a swiveling fairlead. Quick, simple and no drilling. Another was the use of a track mounted cleat. Again, no drilling needed. On another boat the owner used a small single block with a cam attached to the last stanchion instead of a fairlead.
