Not that anyone will miss me...but I am leaving on a business trip for Hawaii Sunday morning and will be back following on Saturday. The sacrifices some have to make for work !

My mast work is almost done. It has been an unbelievable amount of time to square away the reqiring, get a new WINDEX and mounted and a fastener to mount both the WINDEX , new VHF Antennae and new OGM LED light. We tuned the mast last night but still need to change out the deck fittings for the wiring and the VHF wire. Expecting to do the deck wiring connector saturday morning and then sail. Leave on plane early Sunday morning. VHF deck fitting will be next.

Regarding the Windex with the birdproof spike on top - I was just resting on the deck and notice abird sit on the Windex vane. So much for birdproofing ! I guess it only applies to large birds that occupy more space and would not want a spike up their a--..

We were in Hawaii in January, when we tried to find a small sailboat to rent for a couple days. We had no luck, other than those cheap poorly maintained plastic hulled 14'catamarans that beach vendors rent by the hour.
I'd appreciate hearing about any sailboat rentals or short term bareboat charters you see or hear about in Hawaii, as we plan on going back again next year.

Regarding the wind vane, a bird (I think) snapped the end off mine sometime in the past week.

Have fun in Hawaii.

I will not have any time to really do any searching for a rental place. I expect to have free time only monday thru wednesday from about 4pm on. I was not really expecting anyone to be within close proximity to waikiki to go sailing except on perhaps one of the hotel Catamaran rentals going first thru the surf. But then again, those in hawaii are just waking up, so who knows.

I'll settle for a boat store to occupy my some of my time. I'll check the internet/yellow pages. Then again, maybe I'll just get a cold drink and watch the scenery.

Larry,
Don't know if you'll get this in time or if it will help. A freind of mine went a couple of months ago, they were in Kona and found the "Aloha Sailing Club". They don't rent, but if you join his club you can sail his boats. My frend sailed a J 24, dont remember what else they had.

Have fun.

Well...I have returned from the land of pleasant 80 degree days & pineapples. Now back to reality.

In Waikiki, I only had time to do a little bit of exploring. I went to Sand Island Park which is between Waikiki and the airport. The marinas were all gated and I just went to the park and waded into the water there. Another day, I walked out of hotel center section of Waikiki and past the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the Illikai there is a large marina and a large yacht club. I did not do any inquiring as to charters, etc but that area is loaded with sailboats, mostly 30 footers and much larger but they also have some smaller sailboats as well.
