I am hoping you all have a fantastic time. Wind is forcast for 10kts on the beam. It is blowing like hell here in Washington. I will see if I can direct some of it your way. Good luck guys!
Tom, I know its killing you not to be there. I hope to make it one year. Maybe next, I just have to find another ramp. Looking forward to hearing the reports from the Fleet 25 guys.
First a little about the Mug Race. It is divided into two courses, a South course (primary course)which runs from Plataka, FL. to Jacksonville, a distance of 38.5 miles up the St John's River. All boats with mast of less than 45 feet use the primary course and all over 45 feet use the North course which is the same length, but does not go South of the Shands bridge the dividing line and limiting factor between the courses. This year there were 120 boats entered on the South Course and 20 on the North. We had three boats from our Fleet enter this year. The winds at the start were WSW at 4K which put all on a beam at the start changing to a run at the first turn, so all the spins came out on that three mile leg. What a sight that was to see. From that point the river is all Northerly so mostly a beam until the afternoon when the winds went NW at 8-10 with G15. The last leg is a turn around a marker on the West side of the river, to the finish line, on the East side, a little over two miles, another run. The results for our Fleet were great. We took 1st and 2nd in our division RCHS 3 non-spin. Halcyon, skippered by Spencer with 1st mate Becky, seven months along, took 2nd and Pretty PennyII, skippered by yours truly with Son Corey, took 1st. Unlike last year when only three boats finished, all of the 120 that were not disabled finished, including a 82 year old gentleman who sails a 20 foot canoe. That's what I call sailing ability. All in all a super great day for all participants.
