Hello folks, on just our third race, Adventurous brought us across the line before anyone else in our Fleet! In fact, we lead the entire race until just before rounding the final mark. As we were beating toward the first mark, my wife and I start to have a little panic attack, because we didn't know what buoy was the mark. You see, we always just followed the boat in front of us. We were trying to follow the boat behind us, if you can wrap your heads round that.
As we approched the third mark, we were passed like we were standing still by the four Schock Wavelength 24s and the one Capri 25; but they are in a different fleet.
It was great! The trick was, and in accomplishing this we were simply very lucky, but we got off to an excellent start, crossing at around full speed only a couple seconds after the horn.
So this greenhorn thanks all you who have knowingly or unknowingly provided instruction, strategy and insight into racing. I can't wait until next race! While I don't expect to duplicate such an fortuitous start, it's still very thrilling.
Congrats. We have our first ever race coming up in a week. I've been telling the crew that our strategy is to follow the fleet. Not sure, at this point, what I'd do if I found myself out front.
Thanks ya'll. it was a really fun event for us. The pictures, Stampeder, are from the race. Most of the boats behind us there are the "go-fast" boats, with a later start. They have just turned the second mark and end up overtaking me close to the third mark. For a long time we were way out in front.
