Need to change the oil and my manual for my outboard says I should put a sealant on the drain/fill plugs so water doesn't seep past the threads into the unit. I'm sure if I go to a marine store they'll sell me something for $25, but I have to believe there is a non-marine equivalent that works as well.
don't use life caulk or 4200, you need to get that bolt out later, plus it would just squeeze out. I've never used sealant on mine, and no problems. However, if I did I'd use the teflon tape.

I've never use sealant. The Navy sent me to OMC outboard school many years ago, no talk of sealant on the drain plug then. They recommended changing the drain plug gasket at the time. You can pick them up at your outboard dealership for only pennies.
