DOES ANYONE KNOW THE MAKE UP OF THE HULL OF THE 250, MFTG 2003, IN THE AREA UNDER THE V BERTH. I WANT TO INSTALL AN INSIDE HULL MOUNTED TRANSDUCER, THIS REQUIRES SINGLE LAYER FIBERGLASS; ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS IT WILL NOT WORK WITH DOUBLE LAYERS OF FIBERGLASS, FOAM CORE OR WOOD CORE OR HOLLOW CORE.
I have a 97 Wing Keel and mounted my transducer in the V-berth area under the water tank. That area on the WK is the bare hull, no layers or pockets. I'm not sure about a WB, maybe a WB owner will chime in and let you know. If you do a search in the 250 forum, and use the key work "transducer" you'll find many threads on the subject here's one.
I used a wax ball made up from a "new" toilet bowl wax ring and stuck the wax on the hull where I wanted the transducer to be mounted and stuck the transducer into the wax. Simple cheap and removable.
I, too, mounted my transducer in the 'well' in the forward section of the hull. I simply epoxied it directly to the hull with a thick layer of epoxy making sure there were no bubbles between the hull and the transducer. Works great. Accurate, no problems.
I have the factory installed depth-transducer and water-speed-sensor. I've removed the speed sensor before and it looks like a single layer fiberglass. Here's a picture of my water ballast v-berth.
