Our daughter absolutely HATES snoring, so I invented an outside sleeping rig I call a Boom Bunk for her to escape the "sawing of logs" below. A simple but effective escape for her
Frank... a great solution but the solution also tells tales... very nice ones. That your daughter goes saiing with you and Penny, that she enjoys the fresh open air and ain't skeered of insect critters.
It's basically a covered hammock you can slip a sleeping bag in and zipper it closed to keep any flying "critters" out. I rigged the boom vang so I can unsnap it to connect the head of the rig to the gooseneck. The foot connects to the main halyard attachment. At anchor or a mooring it's more stable than the below deck berths.
Now you've done it Frank, we will all be owners of unkept boats! I can see my motivation to clean and maintain going right out the window! I also have to say your daughter has a great smile, Catalina marketing may be interested.
And BTW, as you can see, I've attached my radar reflector to the backstay. Is this high enough to be effective or should I rig it to rise above the spreaders?
From my fevered brain; I designed and constructed it. Real simple: two lengths of canvas approx 3'X 7' sewn together, a zipper on one side, a head bar and a foot bar, two lengths of line, and two brass snap hooks. I once applied for a patent only to be told you can't patent a hammock, I could only protect the name, Boom Bunk or Boombunk.
