Having trouble lowering the mast on my 250WK. There is a spacer that sits under the mast between the base of the mast and the bottom of the mounting bracket...about 1-1/2 inches high. Any suggestions on how to get this out and when to do so during the lowering process. I have found no reference to it in this forum or in the owner's manual from Catalina. Thanks!

Our masts are in a tabernackle and the spacer is the heel. It is black plastic of some kind and stays with the mast. If you look closely it should be rounded on the aft end so when the mast is lowered it does not bind up. And mine is riveted to the mast. Lossen the tabernackle bolt but do not remove it. Mount the baby stays and set the gin pole and other rigging as needed. And be SAFE. Never get under the mast in case something gives. If you are using the trailer set up you should have no problem. Take it slow and double check everything. If it does not move easily then check for something you might have missed. Or maybe a line is hung up on a cleat or something. My flag halyard cleat that is on the starboard shroud always seems hang up on something.

Hi Bob,

I've started putting a little silicon spray between the tabernackel and the blank plastic when raising or lowering the mast. From time to time, this area would bind a little when raising the mast, and would let go with a "Bang". No "bangs" with the silicon spray.

Brent, how often do you raise/lower your mast?
I ask because on Joint Decision (2005 C250 WB) the tabinackle has vertical elongated slots for the mast foot bolt, that slot prevents all 'sticking' of the mast foot onto the tabenackle... however, we raise and lower the mast every trip, so ours really never gets the chance to snag.

Paul

just realized that was your first post to the forum Brent.
Welcome... nice start!

Tom, wher're you going in florida?

Hi Brent, Welcome aboard! Thanks for the silicon spray tip. I have my mast down now getting ready for a trip to Florida, think I'll give it a squirt!
