I have a 250 WB. I am getting water in the bilge. It looks like it is leaking from the bottom seam in the bilge by the balast tank. The fiber glass gel coat is cracking there. What is the best way to repair it?
Also as of late, I am getting some a slow leak of water from the top of the ballast tank valve where the bolt goes through. Is this normal over time and should the rubber washer be replaced?
I also had a slow leak around the bolt on the ballast valve. I put in a heavy gasket cut from a sheet of gasket material I bought at an auto shop. So far, it's stopped the dribbles.
Note: Since I had my boat in the water in a marina, I was leary of removing the wingnut enitrely and possibly deep sixing the entire ballast valve. So I cut a slit in the gasket and slipped it over the shaft of the bolt. Despite the slit, it sealed well enough to stop the leaking.
Good luck with the other leak .... no idea what to do there.

If I lift the boat out of the water and empty the tank. Close the valve and drop the boat back in the water (So the tank is empty), I do not get any water in the bilge. The water comes in as soon as I fill the tank and after a point, the water stops rising.
It could be coming from the through bolt that tightens down the ballast valve. We had a long discussion on that about a year ago. The cause was the misalignment of the hole that the bolt comes through-it is off center. The fix was to epoxy a metal washer for the bolt to seat on. check the archives
We get a little water in our bilge too. In order to find if it is from the ballast tank, we're going to put in a small amount of food coloring into the WB and then start topping it up while boat is on the trailer.
