Hi All, my wife (Annie) and I spend our first night on the boat...sort of. We got to he boat about seven last night and at seven thirty our friends Tonya and Arnold stopped by and we ate hour dehoves (jerky and salteens) and drank Rum and Cokes. We talked and laughed until ten then they headed back home and we setteled into for a good first night sleep on the boat. After we setteled in and closed up the hatches the stink that I thought I had gotten rid of started purmiated the cabin. By 1:30am, we could not take it any longer and drove home. It smells like a mix of bilge and head. Actually I was not too bothered by it but Annie just couldn't take it. So I have my work cut out for me in the comming weeks. By the way, the problem with the motor turned out to be the ignition modual so now for $250.00 it runs like it should. Stay tunned for the next episode. Cheers.

Maybe you are smelling your slip mate... You should try a sailboat only club, they smell better.

Those are a lot tougher to find as the ponds get bigger Frank. Especially in the easter midwest....Crescent Sail might be the only one in that area I know of.

Hi Frank, actually right across the Clinton river from my marina is the North Star Sail Club. But, the Clinton River Catalina Association has most of its members at my marina and I got a $200.00 discount off my slip just because I was a member. Where my boat is slipped is called the cheap seats. They are mostly stink boats with a few 25' sailboats here and there.

Hi Duane, yes I do have a holding tank, but I thought I had sealed the lid fairly tight. Do the holding tanks leach smell?

There should be a vent hose that comes off the tank to the deck, do you have it and is it blocked by stuff on the deck??

Hi Duane I will check that first thing tomorrow. Other than the stink, we were very comfortable. She was in the Vbirth and I in the Qbirth. I'll let you know what I find. Cheers.

The 'head odor' can permeate right through the sides of older sanitation hoses... might want to give them a sniff.

Clam's right - a new set of hoses and clamps should help that problem. Get the boat stink book on the links page. The author pretty much talks about how to de stink any boat

A day-night solar powered vent fan will help as well. Between that and sealing several minor deck leaks my boat smells fresh like a daisy.
