I would like to make (or purchase) a dockstep for my boat and am wondering if anyone has ever made one for their boat? West has them, but for a 2 step unit they are $175.00. I am slipped at the ocean 7*24, if salt comes into this equation at all...
If you've made one and can provide any guidance - materials, plans, pitfalls, tools, design ideas, too much work you're better off buying one, etc.
I went to the local hardware store and bought a Rubbermaid "kitchen" step.....actually two steps. Then used four sheet rock screws to secure it to the dock. That was 20+ years ago. I've replaced it once about 6 years ago.
Same here. Just a rubbermaid step stool from Rite-aid. Leave it in cockpit & set it up next to boat when/where necessary. Leave it on the dock when sailing. Why complicate matters.
