For those with the CDI furler (integral halyard), what do you do with the factory supplied jib halyard? It seems to be in the way, like an sixth finger, but I'm not sure it's wise to remove it. Any ideas?

I decided to keep mine intact. I use it now in then for different things, like to raise my anchor sail up the back stay and to fly the jolly roger from the top of the mast. I haven't done this yet, but when the times comes I plan to use it to raise my inflatable to the foredeck. Also makes a backup fore stay when I'm working on my CDI. I know it gets in the way sometimes but I think its worth keeping.
I keep mine clipped to the mast when not in use, which is almost always over the past 7 yrs. This year I finally purchased a light air sail and will use it for that.
Kevin, I bought a furling sock for my 250WB from Catalina Direct in Feb. Item: E1703 Desc: Furling Sock Cover C-25 Royal Blue Price: $225.00 The color is lighter than the main sail color, but close enough. The problem with any jib sock is the extra fabric flaps in the breeze. I used a small line tied to the jib halyard, then wrapped it around the sock after it was raised. It works pretty well. Isn't Alpenglow the brand name of really nice interior lights? Do you make them?
Kevin, I also bought my furling sock from Catalina Direct August 2005 and it was $310, custom made at the time. That gave me the choice of Sunbrella fabric, so I matched it to my other sail covers. Hopefully by the time Russ bought his, Catalina Direct increased the cost effectiveness and was able to lower the price. Catalina Direct is at (800) 959-7245 or (916) 843-1970. Lowell is very helpful. Website is www.catalinadirect.com. Enjoy!
Frank, We named our boat "Alpenglow" after spending time thinking of a name that was appropriate for a boat, for ourselves, and for the fact that we live in the mountains (between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe). Alpenglow is the eveningtime pink glow on mountaintops to the east after the sun has apparently set to the west. We can see alpenglow on the mountains around Lake Tahoe from our home - hence the name!
Steve, why didn't you like the sock; why only used once? Is the 100 buck offer firm or "best offer", i.e., what's your "bottom line"? My 110 is five years old. According to Catalina that's the maximum time for factory leech protection. Theoretically, a sock would prolong the life of the sail.
Do you sail with it covering the jib? Or do you mean too much windage in your slip? Yeah, 100's a fair price if it's a zipper closer and not button snaps. How do you want to "seal the deal"? Give me the total, including shipping to: 1529 E. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802 562-437-3722 Bank draft or PayPal or cc? Thanks.
Actually, I had another person buy it. If the deal falls through, I'll contact you. You only use the sock when the jib is furled. You can't use it when the jib is out.
