Looks like Uncle Sam has decided that I need to store the HuBeStu for a few months, and head to a beach where there aint a lot of opportunity to sail. Living in Pensacola, one of my main concerns is hurricane preparation so that my bride does not have to contend with my other love. We live 250 yds from the water, but at 35ft elevation. My plan is to store the WB in the back yard, and secure the trailer with mobile home anchors (the type that screw into the ground). I am considering leaving directions to fill the ballast with water just prior to evacuation, and draining upon return. Any guidance would be most appreciated. Also any "winterizing" suggestions would be helpful. I expect to put back into the water in the late spring.
The mobile anchors are a great idea. If you get a big one, nothing will help. Pesacola beach resembles this. Strip all the canvas off the boat and tie her down. And good luck on the beach.
During my 25yrs in the RN I spent quite a while near the water with no chance to sail! Hope your stint goes well.
We're with you on the ground anchors, your post pointed us in the right direction, had not thought of 'mobile home anchors', they should do the trick.
As far as filling the ballast, we have the same issue, filling via the air vent will block off the outcoming air! If it's possible, I would suggest hauling the boat from the water with the ballast full. But 35' in 250yds is pretty steep.
Do you really need to winterize in Pensacola? I would think it would not freeze there but I don't really know.
If you'll be on the hard for an extended period of time I would put some stabilizer in the fuel tank and top it off to avoid condensation. Then fog the outboard. It doesn't take long for the fuel in there to harden. (I've got the t-shirt) Other than that I don't have much to offer.
