I've got a split in what looks like a seam between what looks like two halves of material glued together to make up the rudder. It is slight and appears to be in the fiberglass skin covering the cheek area. I have to affect a repair of the attachment holes for the lower pintle. The whole piece is set askew and has yanked the gudgeon down ward. When I removed the pintle the core material between the hole and the forward edge fell away . What is this material? ANy suggestions on approaching the repair?

If you decide to buy a new one, make sure that you draw a very accurate plan of the rudder and send it to your supplier, (I bought mine direct from the Catalina parts dept) as there are three different size rudders. Believe me, I know this from personal experience.
Frank is 100% right, when I ordered my balanced rudder fom CD they asked me for the year and hull # of my boat in order to ensure that they supplied the correct rudder.
I also strongly suggest that you order it with new pintles already installed since the new style rudders have a complex shape and pintle placement is critical if the rudder is to properly clear your skeg and fit onto your gudgeons.
