I was up at the boat today and messing around with the gate valve on the thru-hull and noticed that ours was sticking open. The handle is rusted and I want to replace it with a newer Lewmar valve. I am guessing that the size is 3/4" Does anyone know the correct size so I can order one. Ours like I stated is really rusty and I want the replacement before I take the old one off.
I'm pretty sure the stock galley drain plumbing on a C-25 is 3/4". If what you've got is a gate valve on a "to-hull", this would seem to be a good time to replace all that with a real thru-hull and seacock. When I did mine, I increased the plumbing size to 1", used a flush (countersunk) bronze thru-hull, 1" teak backing block, and a bronze seacock with stainless steel ball valve and nylon valve seat. Note that a true seacock has a mounting flange and different threads than an inline ball valve.
The countersink for the thru-hull was very easy to form. I roughed it in with a 4" disk on a right angle grinder held at an angle, and did the last bit of fitting with the largest drum sander which would fit the curvature, in a variable speed drill motor.
I put a 1"x1/2" T-fitting on top of the seacock, and a 1/2" PVC ball valve off that for the icebox drain. (I don't know if your boat was the built in icebox feature in the galley.)
The 1" sink drain seemed a lot less likely to get clogged with food scraps from the galley.
That stock thing on a Capri is a sinking waiting to happen. Follow Leon's advice or do like I did, remove the whole abortion and glass the hole so you have one less obstruction on the hull. Maybe you use your sink a lot, but I don't so having a drain through the hull seems totally unnecessary.
The sink is used for storage-seems like a handy place to throw stuff into when in a hurry. As for the valve its a POS, But it would be nice to have a place to wash off a plate, so I will add a thru hull. I am guessing that when I do take the gate valve off it will rip the glass loose from the hull, making a nice hole to fix. We will see. Thanks
Chris, The pipe was threaded into my hull, it didn't let go without one hell of a fight. Put a jug under the drain held in place with a bungee. I also removed the gross water tank and water lines. I'm replacing the water tank with a plastimo bladder. I'm installing it so it is removable for the winter. Easier to winterize that way.
